Topic 3: School Budgetary Needs Assessment Survey
Description of Other Stakeholders Who Would Need to be Surveyed
When it comes to conducting a comprehensive school needs assessment, it's important to recognize that students need to be a part of the conversation. Their voices and feelings are crucial in determining how comfortable they are in the school environment, which ultimately affects their learning and social-emotional needs. After all, schools are designed for the benefit of children, and it's important to keep their perspectives in mind when assessing the school's needs.
In addition to students, parents and guardians also play an important role in the school community. Their feelings and perspectives towards the school's support can help identify areas that need improvement. According to the National Association of Elementary School Principals and the National Association of Secondary School Principals (2003), "students learn when educational leaders foster safe, caring and supportive school learning communities and promote rigorous curricula, instructional and assessment systems" (p. 7). For example, in areas with underprivileged students and families, it may be helpful to allocate some of the school's budget towards parent workshops to help improve the school-home connection. By involving parents and guardians in the conversation, school leaders can gain valuable insights on how to better support their students.
