ELCC 6.1: Candidates understand and can advocate for school students, families, and caregivers.

As a future principal, I am committed to improving school culture and climate by providing support for struggling students and promoting extracurricular activities. One way I have demonstrated this commitment is by staying after school to assist struggling students with their schoolwork. This has involved working one-on-one with students, providing additional instruction, and offering academic support. Additionally, I have helped coach a basketball team, providing students with the opportunity to participate in an extracurricular activity and build relationships with their peers. This experience allowed me to work with students from a different school that I previously had no relationship with. This forced me to present myself as someone they could trust, but also gain the respect of a team full of teenage boys. These initiatives have had a positive impact on the school community, resulting in improved academic performance and increased student engagement. By including these activities in my e-portfolio, I can demonstrate my commitment to promoting a positive school culture and climate through leadership, dedication, and a willingness to go above and beyond for my students.
